Lululemon Continues Practice Cultural Appropriation!

Lululemon’s fitness apparel is popular among athletes and fitness lovers, the Canadian based company has carved a niche to market “ the trendiest fitness material” . Lululemon has continued to practice cultural appropriation and it It was funny that Japanese people couldn’t pronounce the “L” in Lululemon. Lululemon has crossed the line by first launching a new shopping bag series illustrating yoga’s traditional five Yamas- principles or social contracts, of right living, as outlined in Patanjali’s Yoga Suntras, a traditional compendium of yoga philosophy with roots in the Hindu religion.

The retailer used the word “ Namaste” in their new line of thongs which Namaste comes from Sankrit, which means I Bow to You. Namaste is usually spoken with a slight bow and hands pressed together which a a non -contact form of Hindu greeting. The retailer insensitively used the verbiage to describe their line of lingerie. Imagine if the retailer made a line called the Jesus G Strings? No right so why would they choose this verbiage to describe their line of clothes. The name is disrespectful towards the Hindu culture!
